Zirconium is a metal with strong corrosion resistance, suitable for chemical corrosion resistant equipment. Its acid resistance is superior to titanium and various steels, and it is similar to tantalum. Zirconium is also quite stable in alkaline solutions. Zirconium is fully resistant to corrosion by alkaline solutions and molten alkali. Its property in sodium hydroxide medium is the same as that of nickel. Due to its corrosion resistance, zirconium is much better than tantalum and precious metals in many cases. In addition, zirconium also has good mechanical properties and high-temperature resistance. Therefore, zirconium is mainly used in chemical equipment, especially in equipment with high corrosion resistance requirements, to manufacture heat exchangers, container liners, valves, pump shells, blades, mixers, conduits, etc. Many chemical equipment that produce fertilizers, resins, plastics, and acids use zirconium.
